James of Dark Wood – Prologue

This morning I happened upon some more talented young guns from Beaumont, Alberta (not unlike Cocaine Barbie and The Electra Complex). These fellows are of a much different inclination however. Combining the mysterious auras of folk noir with operatic vocals, a strange though beautiful tension emerges. This delicate balance runs throughout their debut EP. “Sam,” a funeral dirge complete with sparkling piano and choral moans, is a perfect example. This fleeting three song Prologue are emotionally redolent of Jim Jarmusch’s “Dead Man” and could easily become a companion soundtrack if someone wished to overlay them. Be on the look out for these Edmonton up and comers.
