Goose Lake weaves songs as delicate and complex, yet bold and beautiful, as spiderwebs. The band’s new record, Lakeheart, demonstrates their ability to emerge new and remarkably improved with each completed effort. I have the utmost respect for a group who, already talented, continue to hone their craft with exacting dedication. Haunting folk peels back to reveal small nests of careful electronics. Each song is a goose down bed of perfect instrumentation and ever-improving vocals. Keep an eye on Grande Prairie. It is a city absolutely swimming in talent. Listen to “Long-Bodied Swimmer” or “Lakeheart” and take note of the daring download-only cover of Arcade Fire’s “Haiti”.
