Jom Comyn is back. Sunstroke is the lead single from the new EP of the same name, out today on Old Ugly Recording Co. Never a man to repeat himself, Sunstroke explores a new reality for Jom Comyn. His distinctive vocals are increasingly confident, and settle comfortably into the mix. The song is drenched with sweat, high with fever. Plinking keyboard lines rise over the song like steam over a crowded outdoor swimming pool. Guitar shimmers in the air like heat over black pavement. And yet, spiritual echos of last year’s Balcony EP are mirrored in the song. The two vastly different poles of existence in Edmonton — the deep cold of winter and the dry glare of the summer — will soon sit side by side on my CD shelf.
Buy Sunstroke tomorrow. Enjoy the single for now.
