SSRIs are a spastic neo-pop band from Vancouver that so happen to be gracing our autumn Edmonton this evening! With a lot of texture and an delicate balance between levity and punk angst, this band’s compositions create a lovely tension familiar from the most lauded pop rock forerunners. Above that, Aaron McKinney, will not leave you wanting lyrically. This combination of talent ensures that the songs remain decisive and interesting through out on an iq and an eq level by being lyrically fatalistic though musically wonderlandesque. This is made most manifest on “Clay Faced, Meat Boots,” where the music continues to spiral apart and come back together into disenchanted carnival vibrations while singer Aaron McKinney declares “You’re looking for answers than look to nature / Chimps eat each other, yeah, chimps eat each other.” That said, Effeminate Godzilla-Sized Wind Chimes decidedly modern tone is excellent medication for anyone looking to get back some serotonin. Go see them tear up the Wunderbar tonight with The Bridal Party and guests. It’s only 5 bucks and it’s going to give you back your childhood (finally!).
