The Test Pattern – Grow Up Young

From the double river banks of unassuming Winnipeg comes the unassuming Grow Up Young by the modestly named The Test Pattern. And there is something inherently modest about comparing one’s musical project to the bland drone of sound and static rainbow bars of late night channel-surfing. In contrast, these songs glow with warmth, effusive in their humanity. The humble songwriting is layered with spot-on guitar textures in songs like “Up in Smoke”, while the album-closing title track offers a slow-burning depth of instrumentation far surpassing what is hinted by the previous acoustic folk numbers–a mix of electric and electronic layers in a semi-post-rock landscape. Altogether a very nice surprise from the heart of the continent.
