Souvs are the Edmonton sweethearts who thin the blood like a sweet blush wine. Fat Wave has been a long time coming. This record lets the sun in then lets the sun out, stares at the stars, dreams the dreams. The volta at the centre of this fat wave is “Little Burgundy,” the quiet heartbeat of this precious record. Its followed by the dark light of “Caves,” which changes the whole trajectory of the record, taking you into space for an astral inward gaze. The production is gorgeously wrought in a far-away aesthetic that nuances the songwork. In the final analysis, Fat Wave is a gorgeous debut full length from a band that’s been cranking out EPs and ruling stages around town for a solid 2 or 3 years now. One can only imagine what will happen next.
